Abstract Using a recently developed technique to estimate gas temperatures ( T SF ) in star-forming regions from large photometric surveys, we propose diagram, analogous the Hertzsprung–Russell diagram for individual stars, probe evolution of galaxies. On this -sSFR (specific star formation rate) small fraction galaxies appear be dominated by different feedback mechanisms than typical These generically have younger stellar populations and lower masses increase relative abundance toward higher redshifts, so argue that these objects are an earlier stage galactic formation. Further, Hubble observations find “core-forming” also exhibit distinct morphology tracks on morphological sequence. Thus, unlike starburst phases which can triggered environmentally, earliest core-forming go through early their history. We therefore most first core stage, then subsequently disk formation, finally become quiescent.
